OUR DRIVER FINISHING PROGRAM

Graduates from our Driver Finishing Program come from all walks of life, but share the common desire to be a professional Driver. Bison provides a finishing program that has an absolute emphasis on safety and driver wellbeing.

The program consists of 3 stages:

IN-CAB INSTRUCTION

Is 11 weeks and includes use of the full motion driving simulator as well as working with an In-cab Instructor for practical training on equipment operation with city, mountain and highway driving experience. You will complete this stage with the training needed to safely operate without an In-cab Instructor.

STAGE ONE

Is 8 weeks in a supervised single position without an In-cab Instructor on our specialized training fleet. The fleet provides for training friendly dispatches, with limited days out, no slip-seating, no expedited or overnight runs and within a mileage radius of the Driver’s home terminal. You will be away several days at a time, depending on the load assignment.

STAGE TWO

Keeps you on the training fleet in a supervised single position until your 2-year commitment to Bison has been met. You are able to travel outside the Stage 1 mileage radius but the restriction of no expedited or overnight runs remains in place. You will be away several days at a time, depending on the load assignment.

  • In-cab instruction is at a one-to-one ratio, single miles only, so there is no period where you are operating without direct supervision. You are the one driving, communicating with dispatch, and performing all the related tasks of your trip assignment.
  • Your instruction takes place in modern late model tractors. These tractors will be spec’d with safety features such as collision avoidance systems.
  • You have access to our On-the-Road Driver Mentors. Imagine how much easier your transition to professional driving will be, if on your first few trips running alone or into new areas, you could have a mentor assigned. The mentor shadows you from their tractor-trailer, providing you guidance along the way.
  • The Fleet provides for training friendly dispatches in line with where you are in each training stage. The Fleet will closely monitor, stay in touch, and go through regularly scheduled progress meetings with you.

  • While you work with an In-cab Instructor, you will receive a salary paid on a weekly basis.
  • During Stage 1 and Stage 2 you are paid a mileage rate for your trip assignments.
  • Health, dental, and travel insurance.
  • EFAP (Employee and Family Assistance Program

  • Whatever background you come from, transitioning to a new career can be challenging for anyone. For professional Drivers, the long-term benefits outweigh the initial challenges of adapting to a driving career and being on the road physically separated from friends and loved ones.
